Lets stop killing people

I head about Pat Robertsons call to 'take out' Chavez, the nut who is running Venezuala.

Ok the guy is a nut. But he can't be any worse than the other nit wits who have run that place. Venezuala is a country with a small group of hugely rich people from oil, and vast vast slums. My husband and I almost moved there a few years ago, and I said no way.

Ok, so, lets make this clear. Roberstson doesn't speak for the US government but many people view him as symble of the Christian Right.

As such he has a responsibility to uphold certain Christian beliefs. I don't know about Pat but in my Bible is a thing about 'thou shall not kill'.

I have a sign up by my door that my niece gave me that says the Ten Commandments and that was is there for sure.

No question.

So that in itself I hope will close any further debate about killing anyone at all.

We don't do that.

Its wrong and immoral.

Its bad even to talk about it so I will stop.

I am now done.

I know what you mean about Pat Robertson, this is not the first time I have heard him saying we should kill or take someone out.

I think it's strange for a preacher to act that way, and Callie I am no Bible expert, But even tho it says 'thou shall not kill' and tho it also says 'turn the other cheek' it also says 'an eye for an eye' and several other verses that refer to killing by defending ones self if I'm not mistaken..

I'm not arguing the point in fact I agree that Robertson is off the wall. But I am saying that the Bible covers all bases for all situations.

You know Callie, your dead on. "Thou shalt not kill". Albiet, this term has come into debate due to translation over the years, but I am absolutely positive, "Assassinate" is one of those things God really looks down on. I think its something ANY religion looks down on. I mean... from my understanding, the only god that would like this would be a polytheistic god of hate, or murder... or something.

Ahhh.. these dominating religious fanatics and those vexatious tree-huggung liberals are both equally irritating. I wish these people could see the middle path. They're both blinded by ignorance.

Kma, people say he is a 'nut' because of the extreme coruption in the govt there for one thing, all the money from oil is in the hands of a few people. Much more than here or other western countries people are super super poor or super rich.

He is anti west and imagines himself as a Castro like strong man, anti west, and very militaristic. The difference of course is that Cuba is small and poor where as Venezuala is a rich oil country.

Like always, its about oil.

Callie, Chavez is a "left wing" leader who got elected by the poor and underprivileged. He wants to share the wealth, wheras the US would prefer he privatize so US companies could come in and run the show. (Companies like Enron...)

Chavez is far left wing, commie in many ways, but his basic priciple of taking the oil and wealth of the country out of the hands of the corrupt establishment is sound. A nice idea in principle. He was elected, and the US should respect the electorate and accept the results.

His only militaristic tendency seems to be a desire to protect himself from US sponsored coup attempts by the corrupt establishment types, and American invasion. Already had a few coup attempts, one CIA sponsored effort where he lost power for a few weeks. Can't really blame the guy, he got elected on a set of priciples, and has to stand by them. Luckily for him, the US is spread a little thin for invasion right now.

I wish him luck. After years of right wing milary leadership, and the violence and corruption that goes hand in hand with that, I hope he can get his country off its knees.

Regardless of who wants to kill whom down in South America, may I point out abrief flaw in your analysis? Even a Catholic Saint, St. Thomas Aquinas, brilliant philosopher of the middle ages, who was probably one of the first people to write against slavery, made a very strong case arguing for the use of Tyrannicide (ok, assassination), and even former White House Press Secretary, Ari Fleisher, suggested the "32-cent solution" (assassination) on Saddam Hussein. You're taking Robertson as Robertson, going from there to pretty much discount the use of assassination period.

If someone took out Osama bin Laden with a sniper rifle, will anyone shed any tears at all? If you're trying to disassociate Robertson with anything to do with US foriegn policy, or the right in general, fine, be my guest, but you might not want to toss out an idea just because he suggested it (just a thought).

Ok OK I don't pretend to understand all the details of international foreing affairs.

I just want people to stop killing each other.

I am sure others agree with me.

Who can keep it all straight?

Why can't we focus on poor children in Africa with AIDS? Or what about climate change?

Why do people always have to be at war?

Why can't our leaders just stop this?

Haven't we learned from all the other wars that nothing is ever really solved?

Who decides that we must always have this stupid violence?

I for one am sick of it and think we should stop it once and for all.

Great post.

The hypocracity of some, not all, I say right winged groups who profess to expound Christan values is truly amazing.

I have posted many times about how some people view Jesus to be loving, tolerant and accepting, yet look at those who supposedly speak in his name to be anti-gay, anti-choice, and anti-everything.

unfortunately in the capitalist world that we live in, life isn't that simplistic. some people have to succeed and some people have to fail for some people to make some money, and some people to have a loss. it's all a game about winning and losing. you can't just say "let's stop killing people" and think everyone will just say that's right, we shouldn't kill. our entire history revolves around killing, takeovers, wars, bloodshed, superiority and might. everyone from the huns to chengiz and taimur khan to the european powers to apartheid to the crusades to the bangladesh/pakistan war to the founding of israel and pakistan and india to the tamil tigers to british and american imperialism to the cold war is about might and superiority. imperialist laws dictate that the mightier power will rule over the weaker populace (even though they are mightier in number)and extrapolate all resources from them. it's basic economics and brute force. it's happened forever, and will happen forever. oh and callie, war is very good for the economy of the winning side.

I have to disagree with you Abbas. War is bad for the economy. There have been unfortunate circumstances where economies had gone from weak, to strong, and when it was growing stronger, thats when the war was occuring. In the US, this myth was perpetuated during the Civil War through WWII. The Korean war, Vietnam War, Desert Storm I, and this current war are all proving to show the real negative impact of war.

All justifications for war are incorrect. War is the ultimate failure of diplomacy, and the ultimate sign of stupidity.

the current US economy is running low due to the war but the people who seek to gain from it or gaining huge. feel free to look up your favourite left wing website about halliburton, lockheed martin etc. or you could try going through your fortune 500 hundred. nobody is profitting there? it wouldn't be right in a time of war, now would it?

Callie,
I agree with you, war is a terrible thing I wish it could just go away. But I think we also know that it's not going away that easily. Unforunately.

Callie, I am having some major problems with my computer came here by the explorer. Can't even access the net by way of my dsl. I may have to crash and redo the whole thing, I'm not doing it tonight tho takes to long. I may be down for a while to I'm trying to visit a little.

If Venezula's leader was such a good guy, why are all his people flocking to South Florida?

Anyway, war, unfortunatily, can be prosperous for for people. My grandparents came to the US during 1945 because of all the work to be had here. It was a boon time.

Gee, speaking of Pat Robertson, I wonder if he will claim this hurricane I just weathered, was caused by the ungodliness of Floridians? After Hurricane Andrew in 1992, I heard fundies at school say that hurricanes were God's wrath. Never mind that hurricanes have been around since before people moved to Florida.

Callie- So you have got a pretty good feel for Chris as you've been blogging with him for a while... What makes you think he would marry someone, unworthy of having his children?! Just b/c I swear on my blog, doesn't mean that I'm this imature sl*t that you think I am apparently! You don't know me so don't go and try to judge me! You are the biggest freaking hypocrit, I've ever had the displeasure of coming across! How would you like it if someone treated you like this and said those things about you, when you were getting married! IT WOULDN'T HAVE FELT REALLY GOOD WOULD IT!! Thanks for telling MY HUSBAND to wear a condom when he has sex with me! You are SCUM!!

Absolutely it is, that's why I am allowed to say whatever I feel like on my OWN BLOG!! You don't know me at all! I stand by that! I wish you did! I'm really one of the nicest, loyal, and honest people out there! I have a disclaimer so stuck up people like you will keep away from my blog! You're not sorry you hurt my feelings, I wish you were, then you might be a real human being, instead you live through your posessions, your materialistic belongings, and your children instead of looking at your own life and changing something! How's your drunk husband doing btw, he should have definitely worn a condom!

Well my husband is fine.

And if you don't want someone to get the wrong impression of you than conduct yourself with some more dignity.

Now that you are married the right thing to do is to wish you both the best and hope you have a happy life together.

And I do mean that.

Unfortunatily the Bible in its original languages says thou shalt not MURDER not kill. Remember the Old Testament allowed defensive wars and it had exicutions of murders. If you could not kill then you could not protect yourself. Some say that in the New Testament Jesus changes that. They are wrong. In Hebrew and in Greek, there are both words for KILL and MURDER. Both testaments say not to MURDER. Like the Book Ecclesiastes states, there is a time to kill. Be it defending you home from an intruder, or your country from an invasion.

AS for Pat Robertson, he is just an old fool.
